In addition to implementing social support projects aimed at improving the lives of Istanbul residents, we have invested billions of liras in the city’s infrastructure, ensuring our services reach every corner of Istanbul.
65 Billion TL Investment in Istanbul’s Infrastructure
Since 2019, we have invested approximately 65 billion TL in Istanbul’s infrastructure, completing numerous projects. Once the ongoing projects are finalized, we will enhance not only the surface but also the subsurface of the city, making it safer, cleaner, and more efficient.
We have resolved chronic flooding issues in 143 locations, including major districts like Üsküdar, Kadıköy, Kartal, Beyoğlu, Sarıyer, Beşiktaş, Avcılar, Büyükçekmece, Küçükçekmece, Zeytinburnu, and Fatih, ensuring protection for both the city and its residents from past flood-related challenges.

Protecting the Marmara Sea from Pollution
We separated wastewater pipelines from rainwater pipelines within Istanbul’s infrastructure. Wastewater was directed to treatment plants, while rainwater was safely channeled to the Marmara Sea. This effort has prevented wastewater from entering the Marmara Sea, ensuring that its waters remain clean.
Stopped Wastewater from Entering the Bosphorus
With the construction of the İstavroz Wastewater Tunnel, we successfully prevented pollution in the Istanbul Bosphorus. This includes the 593-meter-long tunnel in Üsküdar Beylerbeyi, along with 183 other points where wastewater entry into the seas was stopped.
Through these tunnels, we’ve not only tackled today’s challenges but also laid the foundation for a cleaner and more sustainable future for Istanbul.

Major Infrastructure Investments Completed
Across Istanbul, we have undertaken and completed significant infrastructure projects, including:
- 2,800 kilometers of wastewater and rainwater pipelines (220 kilometers dedicated to rainwater channels),
- 20.63 kilometers of drinking water tunnels,
- 20.2 kilometers of combined rainwater/wastewater tunnels,
- 3,100 kilometers of drinking water pipelines, and
- 14,500 kilometers of wastewater network pipelines.
Additionally, we’ve cleaned 1,090 kilometers of wastewater collector and tunnel lines. Thanks to these tunnels and channels, we’ve effectively tackled wastewater and drinking water problems in Istanbul.
Protecting Istanbul’s Water Basins
We are committed to safeguarding Istanbul’s water basins and ensuring sustainable water resources. In Kırklareli Vize, work has begun to manage wastewater disposal in regions like Aksicim, Hamidiye, Balkaya, Kızılağaç, Kışlacık, Küçükyayla, and Kömürköy.
To prevent wastewater from contaminating the Istranca Water Basin, we are constructing new wastewater pipelines, prioritizing environmental health and the protection of our water resources.

Revitalizing Istanbul’s Streams
We are cleaning Istanbul’s streams, transforming areas that once posed risks to public health into green spaces where residents can enjoy their time.
- A total of 3,569,000 cubic meters of material has been cleaned from the streams.
- The ISKI Bekardere rehabilitation project in Üsküdar is underway.
- In the past, we carried out partial or complete rehabilitation on 98 different streams across Istanbul.
- We completed collector connections and rehabilitated a total of 78.2 kilometers of streams.
ISKI Melen Facility Opened
We opened the new ISKI Melen Facility and its accompanying administrative building to further enhance Istanbul’s water infrastructure.
- The Melen River project represents the largest investment in ISKI’s history, ensuring that Melen water is transported to Istanbul through advanced infrastructure while protecting the water basin with wastewater investments.
Additional Melen Investments and Infrastructure Projects
- Ataşehir Ferhatpaşa Logistics Center: Opened to support infrastructure projects on the Asian side of Istanbul.
- Key Infrastructure Facilities Built:
- 3 wastewater treatment plants,
- 8 drinking water reservoirs,
- 3 drinking water treatment plants, and
- 2 drinking water pumping stations.
- Technological Advancements in Infrastructure: Utilized advanced methods for trenchless repairs, completing 271 kilometers of canal repairs using innovative technology.

Continuing the Construction of New Facilities
We are building new facilities, reservoirs, and pumping stations, especially on the Asian side of Istanbul, to ensure the city has uninterrupted, safe, and clean water. Once these facilities are completed, delivering water to Istanbul will become more efficient and reliable.
Ongoing Facility Constructions:
- Terkos Drinking Water Treatment Plant
- Ümraniye Pumping Station
- Kartal Soğanlık 5,000 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Kartal Esentepe 12,500 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Şile Garaj 10,000 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Şile Sortullu 2,500 m³ Reservoir
- Cumhuriyet Drinking Water Treatment Plant
- Kartal Yüzkonutlar 7,500 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Şile I.A.T. Pumping Station and 5,000 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Arnavutköy Tayakadın 20,000 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
- Bağcılar Mahmutbey 17,500 m³ Drinking Water Reservoir
Strengthening Istanbul’s Natural Gas Infrastructure
Over the past 5 years, we have established more than 2,000 kilometers of new natural gas pipelines, bringing natural gas to neighborhoods in Istanbul that have waited for decades.
- Sultangazi’s Zübeyde Hanım, Habipler, and Cebeci neighborhoods received natural gas after 18 years of waiting.
- Çatalca’s Yalıköy, Kızılcaali, Örcünlü, and Yaylacık neighborhoods were connected to natural gas following a 20-year wait.
Additionally, İGDAŞ (Istanbul’s Natural Gas Provider) improved its customer satisfaction rate from 67.4% to 76.3% by early 2023.
